Widely regarded as the father of Japanese industrial design. Born as the eldest son of Soetsu Yanagi—founder of the Mingei (folk craft) movement—and a former assistant to Charlotte Perriand, Yanagi created the Butterfly Stool and designed everything from kitchenware to bridges, establishing a unique aesthetic that fused Eastern and Western sensibilities.
